Adult Total Hip Replacements

According to the World Health Organisation, the second most successful operation ever invented in the world is a Hip Replacement. This is only second to Cataract Eye Surgery. This rating considers the impact of the surgery in an appropriately chosen patient. Hip Replacement is a life changing operation and patients are the second most happy patients after those who have had their sight returned.

The technology and technique have now become so superior that patients are up and walking the same day of surgery and are home in 2-3 days. Anaesthetic techniques have advanced to a stage where post-operative pain is a thing of the past.

Essentially, replacement surgery is "replacing rough bone rubbing on bone with super smooth and congruent metal on metal, metal on plastic or ceramic on ceramic". Which surfaces are used is decided pre-operatively during a consultation with Dr Hazratwala.

Dr Hazratwala performs hip replacement using a personalised positioning system. Developed in conjunction with a team of expert biomedical engineers , OPS™ technology uses advanced computational modelling to simulate how a patients hip joint moves through a range of daily activities.

Dr Hazratwala is currently researching the accuracy and precision of the different surgical techniques combined with the OPS™ Technology. Please refer to Research and Publication section.
