A/Professor Kaushik Hazratwala

A/Prof Kaushik (Kosh) Hazratwala is a Specialist Lower Limb Orthopaedic Surgeon with an interest in Adult Hip and Knee Reconstruction, Sports Injury Surgery and General Limb Trauma.

He has spent the last 15 years in Townsville, both in the private and public sector working with a multitude of peer specialists, medical students, nursing and allied health care staff. Currently he is the most senior Orthopaedic Consultant at the Townsville University Hospital and over this time, mentored, and a lead of the Orthopaedic Department. 

In addition to his clinical roles in the Townsville region, He is currently the Director of the Queensland Lower Limb Clinic, and Co-Director and Chief Financial Officer for the not-for-profit health promotion charity, the Orthopaedic Research Institute of Queensland (ORIQL). His role within ORIQL is multifaceted, and is involved in  leadership and mentoring  medical students (internationally, locally and those undergoing honors programs). Through ORIQL, he provides the only regional Arthroplasty Fellowship in Queensland. The duties surrounding this role include education and mentoring, as well as clinical support of Fellows to enhance their clinical skills in diagnosis, treatment and management of musculoskeletal injuries, diseases and conditions. He has published in excess of 20 peer reviewed articles and continues to add to this list. He is considered a leader in the digital medical education space. He has presented on this topic internationally and continues to run teaching webinars for surgeons internationally. 

He is on the advisory panel for patients specific alignment knee replacement strategy and the Velys digital surgery programme for Depuy Synthes , a subsidiary company of Johnson and Johnson. 

In 2018 he joined the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) and obtained has now become a graduate member. 

In Nov 2019 is was awarded the position of Clinical Associate Professor at the James Cook University, Faculty of Medecine and Dentistry. He is the first orthopaedic surgeon to be awarded this honor. This is in recognition of his research, training and funding activities. 

In January 2009, A/Prof Hazratwala formed the Queensland Lower Limb Clinic as a specialist center for Orthopaedic Surgery, offering super-specialised orthopaedic services for conditions of the lower limb. The Queensland Lower Limb Clinic is situated at the Mater Medical Centre, 21-37 Fulham Road, Pimlico, Townsville.

In 2018, A/Prof Hazratwala expanded his services to Brisbane and has his consulting rooms at 141 Warry St , Fortitude Valley . He operates at the St Andrews War Memorial Private Hospital in Fortitude Valley.
